How tall is blizzard beach slide

For our money, the most exciting and interesting slides are the Slush Gusher and Teamboat Springs on the front right of the mountain, and runoff rapids on the back side of the mountain. Slush Gusher is an undulating speed slide that we consider as exciting as the more vertical Summit Plummet without being as bone-jarring. The more people you load into the raft, the faster it goes. If you have only a couple in it, the slide is kind of a snore. Runoff Rapids is accessible from a path that winds around the far left bottom of the mountain.

The rapids consist of three corkscrew tube slides, one of which is enclosed and dark. As at Teamboat Springs, you'll go much faster on a two- or three-person tube than on a one- person tube. If you lean so that you enter curves high and come out low, you'll really fly. Because we like to steer the tube and go fast, we much prefer the open slides where we can see to the dark, enclosed tube. We thought crashing through the pitch-dark tube felt disturbingly like being flushed down a toilet.

The Snowstormers ' mat slides on the front of the mountain are fun but not as fast or as interesting as Runoff Rapids or Downhill Double Dipper on the far left front. The Toboggan Racers at the front and center of the mountain consists of eight parallel slides where riders are dispatched in heats to race to the bottom. The majority of the major attractions at the park are hosted atop of Mount Gushmore , an artificial hill with an elevation of 90 feet 27 m , making it the fifth-highest point in Florida.

It is split into three colored slopes to aid guests navigating around the park: Green, Red, and Purple. All water areas are heated at approximately 80 degrees Fahrenheit with the exception of the melting snow in the ice cave of Cross Country Creek.

It was a meteorological phenomenon of the strangest order. One balmy day, a freak winter storm developed over the western end of the Walt Disney World Resort and covered the area with a thick blanket of powdery-white snow. Before you could say "hot cocoa," plans were underway for Florida's first ski resort.

Ski lifts were put up, toboggan runs were laid down and an entire resort area blossomed around the mountain of snow. Yet before the first skier could strap on a pair of boots and stick his poles into the snow, the temperatures returned to their normal Florida levels, and the powdery snow quickly turned into slippery slush.

The ski resort operators saw their dream melting down the hillside. Yet that's not all they saw. As the slush began cascading down and pools of water began to form, an echoing "yahoo" was heard from the summit of the mountain.

Everyone looked up to see a playful alligator careening down the melting hillside. He slid to the base of the mountain and landed in a pool of water with a thunderous splash. They knew at once that they were back in business. Slalom courses, bobsled, and toboggan runs became downhill water slides. The creek of melted snow that formed at the base of the mountain became a relaxing tube ride.

The chairlift carried swimmers instead of skiers. The ski jump became the tallest and fastest water slide in the world. The ski resort became known as Disney's Blizzard Beach, the most slushy, slippery, exhilarating water park anywhere!

The Green Slope attractions all are single track water slides, and as such are not meant for racing are found at the uppermost point of Mount Gushmore. They can be accessed by foot, or by chairlift.

By taking the Mount Gushmore chairlift, getting to the ride can be part of the fun. Since the line for the lift can get quite long, however, riders have the option of walking up a considerably long path. From the chairlift station, riders must ascend a few flights of stairs to reach the mountain's summit and the slide's loading platform.

An attendant helps riders get into position—lying face up with legs and arms crossed to prevent flailing limbs from crashing into the sides of the slide— and gives them the OK sign. It takes tremendous nerve to shove off. Although it's not quite a degree angle, Summit Plummet is so steep that riders can't see anything if they peer over the edge of the slide before they get down into position.

It takes blind faith to accept that there is, in fact, a continuous slide that will deposit riders at the base of the mountain. Ironically, once they begin the descent, some riders may momentarily float into the air and freefall as if the slide vanishes. It's the water slide equivalent of roller coaster airtime. Racing through the darkened tunnel and pelted by a curtain of water, riders become temporarily disoriented.

Emerging from the tunnel, they regain their bearings and soar down the face of the mountain. Hitting the straightaway at the bottom, riders create a huge plume of water—and possibly, an industrial-strength wedgie. If you plan to tackle Summit Plummet, make sure you wear appropriate swimwear and check it carefully before the ride. As each rider reaches the end, a digital readout displays his top speed. Overall weight and body shape appear to affect the speeds. Children hover around 50 mph.

The lines for Summit Plummet and the Slush Gusher are right next to each other. On crowded days it's best to visit this attraction early in the morning.
